For the first time it was mentioned about hairless cats during the Aztecs times. They were displayed for the first time on exhibitions in 1924. It was Mexican hairless cats. During winter these cats were covered with thin layer of fine hair. Serious breeding of hairless cats felinologists started in 1966 in Canada. In Canada as a result of a spontaneous mutation in a litter of a normal domestic cat was born a hairless kitten. Before the end of the 80s. Sphinx was the only breed of hairless cats. During the breeding work Sphynx used reception "cast-drop of blood" cats only Aboriginal - European Shorthair and Siberian. It was the first task to preserve Its indigenous origin of the breed.
Currently, there are three varieties of inbreeding Sphynx:
-hairless since newborn (rubber);
-with thin fine very short hair "Flok '' (those that have rudimentary hairs all over the body);
- '' Brushes '' (with thick wavy hair and very soft or stiff, crimped, almost the broken hair).
Don hairlessness is a dominant gene of inheritance, that is, in the first generation born hairless kittens. But the degree of appearance of hairlessness is very diverse. The same litter can have hairless, brushes', and velor kittens. If the crown of the kittens head of the last two types has bald spot ( "tonsure '') at birth then over time these kittens loose hair and become true sphinxes. How quickly this happens, we can determine the age of 1-2 months. If the coat is in the aged saved fine and silky, kitty will "undress" in about 4-5 months. If the coat is stiff to the touch, shedding coat may be delayed up to 1.5-2 years. But, in practice, the process of loosing hair is different for each individual animal.
Despite the fact of dominant nature of inheritance Don hairless, in fact we are dealing with incomplete dominance. Degree of representation of the mutation is affected by " the dose" of the gene. It happens because only some homozygous individuals are hairless, completely devoid of fur and whiskers, with a very soft, supple and soft skin.
Hairless varieties and velor Don Sphynx claim their titles and are successfully exhibited at various exhibitions.
"Brush type" cats are exhibited without the right to the title, but they are very widely used in breeding, especially when paired with a hairless. Some of the "brushes" after reaching puberty begin to loose coat rapidly and become completely hairless except for the legs, which will remain partially covered with short, soft, and slightly wavy hair. Such animals can be represented on cat shows but they do not have the right to receive high titles.
Don Sphynx are very active, sociable, have a strong nervous system, a high degree of adaptability, extremely affectionate. An energetic, inquisitive and active Sphynx loves to play with a ball, a nut, "mouse '' and many other toys. Their character and habits probably are as unusual as their appearance. Surprisingly gentle and affectionate, they love a long time to sit on the lap of their owner, they do love hugging and touching . Their faces are very clean, quickly master the "toilet" or potty training as well as they easily find common language with dogs and other pets. In fact they are ideal for people who are allergic to cat fur, and dreaming to get a cat -.. sphinx are just a godsend.
Sphynx is a young breed but it has been developing very rapidly. During recent years, Don Sphynx became known in many countries around the world. Many animals found their owners in the United States, Israel, Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland, Hungary and China. In the CIS countries Don Sphynx are very common pets and their popularity grows all the time. A few years ago this breed was considered so exotic that shows visitors were surprised to learn that Dons are native breed, but now they are very common and widely known by people. Extension of '' region of residence "has meant that more and more people perceive the Dons are not like exotic cat toy, but as a creature, bringing harmony and love in the family life.
Sphynx is a Russian breed, based on dominant mutations (on opposite from Canadian Sphynx Don sphinxes are One of the few native Russian breeds of cats. The history of domestic breed began in February 1986 in the city of Rostov-on-Don Once a native of Krasnoyarsk, associate professor IETF Elena Kovaleva while returning home took a small kitten from boys in the Karl Marx square. The boy was terrorizing poor baby kitten. This kitten (in the house she was named Varvara), a short time later, the hair on the back suddenly became fading and falling off. Treatment didn't have any results. Cat's back remained without fur. In 1988, Barbara was the first to show the professionals engaged in breeding of pedigreed cats, but the unusual-looking cat did not make any impression. On February 20 1990 Barbara (DSX g) gave birth to a litter of three kittens from the European Shorthair cat Basil ( EUR a22 03). Their daughter Chita (DSX b21) and is the founder of the breed. The development of new cats breed took felinologist Irina Nemykina, now known in history feline world. And then, by back-cross, after a hard and thankless years of breeding work Irina Nemykina finally became known around the world and the breed was registered in the WCF in 1996.
Sphynx baldness occurs due to the presence in its dominant allele genotype Hbl, moreover hairless is divided into three main types: "brush" (brush - translated to English means - brush, bristly) "flock" and hairless. Breed Sphynx has some fundamental differences from Canadian Sphynx (SFX):
Sphynx in the gene pattern baldness - recessive (allele h)
at the Sphynx is not completely bare (clay, "gum") animals, they are lightly covered with fur, especially long on the face, ears, legs and tail). Canadian Sphynx are not born hairless.
